My Beauty Spot 4th December, 2017 0 Comments
If there’s a new beauty obsession in town I want to know about it, especially if I know that Kim Kardashian is a fan! The craze I’m talking about is Intravenous Vitamin Therapy – an innovative, fast-acting treatment which has taken the world by storm. You may have heard about high profile influencers being given IV drips at Coachella or the ‘IV Hangover Bus’ on the Last Vegas Strip. Well now it’s launched in Leeds and Melissa from Invigorate IV, asked me to try it out.
I was slightly apprehensive about the needle going in my arm but once this was out the way I spent a relaxing 30 minutes whilst the cocktail of vitamins travelled through my body.
Melissa picked for me the Wellbeing ‘Myers Formula’ that contains just the right mix of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants for an overall feeling of wellness. Halfway through the session, I felt slightly woozy and so Melissa slowed the flow a little.
About an hour after the treatment, I felt full of energy and my mood had improved. Was this psychosomatic? I can’t be sure but I wasn’t complaining as I was buzzing around with a smile on my face. It even showed outwardly as a friend commented I was glowing!
The results probably lasted over 24 hours so I can see this treatment being used for hangovers, preparing for an important event where you need to be mentally/physically prepared and also great for athletes perhaps following a marathon. It’s quite pricey but there’s definitely a market for this innovative treatment where, as Melissa says, ‘You can be your personal best!’
We spoke with Melissa, a qualified Pharmacist, and Phlebotomist, trained in the delivery of Intravenous Nutritional Therapy (IVNT), to get the scientific info:
What vitamins were in my treatment and what benefits should they deliver?
You had the Wellness ‘Myers Cocktail’, benefits are increased energy, better sleep, and increased endurance.
-Glutathione (done as a separate push before the drip): The Superhero of antioxidants!! Increases energy, slows down aging, reduces muscle and joint discomfort, strengthens the immune system, detoxifies liver and cells, improves sleep, increases athletic performance and aids recovery!
-Magnesium – helps energy production, reduces stress & promotes restful sleep.
-Calcium – works together with magnesium for good health.
-Vitamin C – healthy growth and repair of skin, helps lower cholesterol, improves asthma symptoms and improves blood flow.
-Selenium – Anti ageing, boosts immunity, improves brain function, antiviral, improves fertility and regulates the thyroid.
-Vitamins B5, B6, B12, B complex – increasing energy, enhanced immune system, maintain healthy skin, easing stress and improving mood.
-Zinc – vital for the immune system, good skin, hair and nails and a mood stabiliser. Also vital for fertility and vision.
How often can you have the Treatments?
You can have them whenever you feel you need a boost, but at least 1-2 weeks apart or 8-12 weeks apart for maintenance. You may not feel the benefits straight away which is why a couple close together may be more beneficial.
Are there any side effects?
You may feel slightly lightheaded during the treatment but we can slow down the flow of the drip to reduce this. You also might get slight bruising from the needle. As the treatment can give you a boost of energy then I wouldn’t recommend having them close to bedtime.
Is everyone suited to it?
Not everyone is suited to it. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers cannot have them. Patients with liver or renal disease may need to avoid some of the ingredients. A full medical check is always carried out before treatment to ensure that there are no contraindications to any of the ingredients used.
